Better use of data and technology can help people live healthier, happier and more productive lives. Digital health can make a real difference to people’s health by giving them greater control and easy access to information.

The Australian Digital Health Agency commenced operations on 1 July 2016 and is tasked with improving health outcomes for all Australians through the delivery of digital health technologies andAustralia’s National Digital Health Strategy –Safe, seamless and secure in collaboration with partners across the community. This strategy puts consumers at the centre of their health and care, which empowers more choice, control and transparency. The focus of the Agency is to put data and technology safely to work for patients, consumers and the healthcare professionals who look after them.

The Agency is the System Operator of My Health Record, which provides a secure online summary of key health records. Through the My Health Record system, patients can access and control to their own health data, such as shared health summaries, discharge summaries, prescriptions, dispense records, pathology reports and diagnostic imaging reports. This system enables healthcare providers to deliver informed healthcare through better access to current clinical and treatment information, which can improve the health outcomes for patients.

Established as a statutory authority in the form of a corporate Commonwealth entity, the Agency reports to State and Territory Health Ministers through the COAG Health Council. For more information about the Agency, please visit www.digitalhealth.gov.au.
